Data Collected
- Student ID — entered by the user, stored locally on-device in AsyncStorage. Never
sent to any server.
- Device UUID — auto-generated on first launch, stored in the iOS Keychain. The first
8 characters are used for local admin-unlock code verification and the first 16 characters are used
in the service ID of the BLE service to prevent students from registering with their device multiple times.
Data Broadcast
The student ID is advertised over Bluetooth Low Energy as a local BLE device name,
visible to nearby BLE scanners operated by the institution. It is not transmitted over the internet.
Data NOT Collected
- No account, login, or password.
- No location data — the
NSLocationWhenInUseUsageDescription key exists only because iOS
requires it for Bluetooth. The app never calls the location API.
- No analytics, crash reporting, or third-party SDKs.
- No data is ever sent to any remote server.
Data Retention
Student ID and device UUID persist on-device until the device lock is cleared
by an admin. The Keychain UUID survives app deletion on iOS.
Third Parties
✓ No third-party SDKs
✓ No network calls
✓ No backend
Support & Troubleshooting
Bluetooth doesn't seem to be working
Make sure Bluetooth is enabled in Settings. Please Come requires Bluetooth to
advertise your student ID — without it, the app cannot broadcast.
The app asked for location permission — why?
iOS requires apps to request location permission before they can access
Bluetooth. Please Come never reads your location.
My student ID isn't being picked up
Confirm your student ID is saved in the app, Bluetooth is on, and you are within
range of the institution's scanner (typically a few metres).
How do I change my student ID?
An admin can generate a QR code for you to scan with the app to change your ID.
I still have a question
